I think it explains a lot about the "current" Shane. You can see this good kid shine through in the current, Triptych-conditioned Shane. Unlike Addison, Shane really doesn't belong in (at?) In spite of his flaws, he's still human. Even that ability/flaw to turn his emotions off, while you call it alien, is still painfully human.
